Microtune's MicroTuner MT2050 Single-Chip Tuner, Implemented in
ARRIS' Advanced Telephony Modems, Enables High-Speed Data and
Toll-Quality Voice Services Microtune(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:TUNE)
announced today that global communications technology leader ARRIS
(Nasdaq:ARRS) has implemented the MicroTuner(TM) MT2050 single-chip
tuner as the core radio frequency (RF) component in ARRIS'
DOCSIS(R)- and PacketCable(R)-certified Touchstone(TM) Telephony
Modems. In production today, ARRIS' TM402 series of telephony
modems leverages the miniature size, low power and cost
efficiencies of Microtune's RF silicon technology to deliver
high-speed data access and carrier-grade Voice over IP (VoIP) phone
service. Its Touchstone modems permit cable operators to maximize
revenue potential by providing quality, reliable and economical
multimedia service options to cable subscribers. Microtune,
inventor of and a market leader in single-chip TV tuner technology,
develops RF silicon and systems solutions for consumer electronics
and broadband communications. ARRIS is a market leader in
Certified- and Qualified- cable solutions for cable operators
worldwide, and according to Kinetic Strategies' June 2005 Cable
Digital News report, is the number one supplier of VoIP telephony
modems in the world. "ARRIS has played a major role in VoIP
telephony, helping worldwide cable operators deliver the triple
play of video, voice and data to their subscribers. We are proud to
be a part of ARRIS' broadband cable strategy," said Albert
Taddiken, Chief Operating Officer of Microtune. "To deliver the
most advanced and cost-effective solution to its customers, ARRIS
chose our MT2050 silicon tuner for its advanced RF enabling
technology. The on-board tuner implementation improved
price/performance and reliability, while offering a much smaller
footprint for thin, sleek telephony modem designs. ARRIS'
successful transition to the MT2050 demonstrates the viability of
deploying our silicon tuners in low-power, battery-backed cable
applications that must also meet stringent CableLabs(R) RF
performance requirements." "Microtune's MT2050 tuner enables us to
meet our VoIP business objective with the quality, performance and
low-power demanded of DOCSIS and Packet Cable standards," added
Bruce McClelland, VP Engineering, ARRIS Broadband. "Microtune
provides a cost-efficient, stable RF technology that assists us in
delivering increased throughput, speed, capacity and reliability in
our market-leading telephony modems." ARRIS Touchstone Telephony
Modems The ARRIS Touchstone family of Telephony Modems is comprised
of several embedded multimedia terminal adaptors (E-MTA) with
patented, feature-rich designs. The Touchstone portfolio offers the
flexibility to interoperate in any PacketCable- or Session
Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based network. Features include from one
to four lines of telephony, bridged USB and Ethernet interfaces, up
to 16 hours of battery back-up capabilities and proven
carrier-grade voice performance. ARRIS Touchstone telephony modems
have achieved PacketCable, DOCSIS 1.1 and EuroDOCSIS 1.1
certification and are DOCSIS 2.0 and EuroDOCSIS 2.0 based. For more
