ArthroCare Corporation and Lucent Technologies Honored for the
Successful Use of Technology to Solve Critical Business Issues SAN
JOSE, Calif., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Agile Software
Corporation (NASDAQ:AGIL), a leading provider of product lifecycle
management (PLM) solutions, today announced that two of its
customers, ArthroCare Corporation and Lucent Technologies, were
honored with Start Magazine's Technology & Business (T&B)
Awards for clearly demonstrating their commitment and understanding
of how technology can help them effectively improve and enhance
their companies and their bottom lines. This year's Technology and
Business awards were judged by a panel of industry analysts.
Winners were chosen based on the technology challenges they faced
in solving critical business issues and the technological solution
employed to successfully resolve these challenges. ArthroCare, a
multi-business medical device company, was recognized for realizing
cost and operational efficiencies by moving to a platform-based
development and manufacturing model along with moving their
manufacturing to an offshore location in Costa Rica. With a single
product record managed in Agile Product Collaboration, the
real-time communication between this new location and the R&D
teams in the U.S., U.K. and Sweden enabled the medical device
company to reduce product change times nearly 80 percent, from nine
to two days, resulting in an acceleration of the entire product
development cycle. In addition, by using the Agile solution,
ArthroCare was able to reduce their cost of warranty and cost of
failures. Lucent Technologies, a leading global supplier of
communications networking equipment, was selected for realizing
savings due to reductions in design cycle times, scrap, rework and
additional inventory consumption by moving to a virtual
manufacturing model. Lucent's key to creating a virtual supply
network was the insight and collaboration enabled by Agile's suite
of PLM solutions, including Agile Product Collaboration for
visibility into the product record, and Agile Product Cost
Management, which has helped Lucent more effectively analyze and
manage aggregated projected direct material spend across the supply
chain. "ArthroCare and Lucent exemplify the power of PLM to enable
successful business transformation and to streamline product
lifecycles to improve margins and maintain a competitive edge,"
said Bryan Stolle, Agile CEO and Chairman. "We are extremely
pleased that the industry recognizes the outstanding practices of
our customers and we are committed to continuing to support their
efforts as leaders within their respective industries." The 2005
T&B Awards ceremony was held August 11 at the Hard Rock Hotel
in Chicago, Illinois. Winners will be featured in the cover story
of the magazine's October 2005 issue and can also be found online
