Rio Tinto (RIO, RIO.LN, RIO.AU) said it is offering
independently certified, responsibly produced aluminium from its
smelters in Australia and New Zealand that predominantly use
hydro-powered electricity.
The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative, of which Rio Tinto is a
founding member, granted its Performance Standard and Chain of
Custody certifications to Rio Tinto's Amrun and Weipa bauxite
mines, Yarwun alumina refinery, and the Bell Bay and NZAS aluminium
smelters, the company said.
Rio Tinto said this builds on the certifications in place for
its Canadian operations. ASI certification covers environmental,
social and governance standards, including greenhouse gas emissions
and human rights.
