Allstate Corp. (ALL) on Thursday said September pretax catastrophe losses totaled $177 million, or $140 million after taxes, bringing after-tax losses for the third quarter to $494 million.

The Northbrook, Ill., insurance company said it recorded $145 million of pretax losses from 13 events in September, along with unfavorable reserve reestimates of prior reported catastrophe losses.

Allstate said Hurricane Florence, which made landfall on Sept. 14, accounted for roughly half of the event catastrophe losses for the month.

Allstate previously reported after-tax catastrophe losses of $354 million for July and August.

Allstate noted that its catastrophe-loss figures don't include Hurricane Michael, which roared ashore on Oct. 10 as one of the most powerful storms ever to hit the U.S.
