Executive Director of the Children’s Developmental Center in Richland, Washington Recognized for Her Commitment to Helping Children with Disabilities and Challenges Succeed

The Rite Aid Foundation announced today that Cathryn Tames, Executive Director of the Children’s Developmental Center in Richland, Washington, has been awarded its KIDCHAMPSM Award for her tireless work over the past 30 years to support children with disabilities and developmental challenges. Ms. Tames will be recognized today at 10 a.m. during a special presentation at the Children’s Developmental Center located at 1549 Georgia Avenue SE in Richland. In recognition of her service, Ms. Tames will receive a $10,000 donation to the Children’s Developmental Center and $500 in Rite Aid gift cards to continue advancing its work to improve the health and well-being of children served by the organization.

The Rite Aid Foundation created the KIDCHAMP award in 2017 to recognize individuals in communities served by Rite Aid that have made a meaningful difference in the lives of youth by advocating for their health and well-being, championing education and academic growth and creating a safe environment for children and teens to live and grow. Ms. Tames is the third recipient to receive the award.

“Cathryn has been working for more than three decades to help children faced with a disability or challenge reach their full potential,” said Bryan Everett, chief operating officer of Rite Aid Stores and member of The Rite Aid Foundation Board of Directors. “Her unwavering dedication to improve early learning experiences has had a dramatic impact on the lives of so many children and families in the Tri-Cities area, making her most deserving of our KIDCHAMP award.”

The Children’s Developmental Center, which is the leading neuro-developmental center in the region, provides services to young children with disabilities and challenges in Benton and Franklin Counties. Additionally, the Center provides services to children within the Autism Spectrum and an Incontinence Program.

“I am honored to receive the KIDCHAMP award from The Rite Aid Foundation and thank them for recognizing the tremendous strides we are making at the Children’s Developmental Center,” said Ms. Tames. “All children are gifted. I remain steadfast and committed to advancing our Center’s mission of helping every child achieve success in school and in life.”

Ms. Tames joined the Children’s Developmental Center in 1984 as the Program Director and was promoted to Executive Director in 2004. Under her guidance and leadership, the Center now serves more than 300 children a month. In addition, Ms. Tames championed the recent addition of an Applied Behavioral Analysis program to assist children on the autism spectrum and their families with new skills and communication styles to assist the children in being ready for schooling or other activities.

The Children’s Developmental Center provides services to young children, birth to three years old with disabilities and challenges and their families residing in Benton and Franklin Counties and some outlying areas. Additionally, we offer some services to children up to 10 years old within the autism spectrum and an incontinence program for those 5 to 16 years.
