AJ Murphy, the head of global capital markets at Bank of America
Corp., is leaving the firm, according to people familiar with the
matter.
"A.J. Murphy, head of Global Capital Markets, has informed me of
her decision to leave the company to pursue a new opportunity at a
client," Christian Meissner, head of Global Corporate Investment
Banking said in the memo, whose contents were confirmed by a bank
spokesman. It isn't clear who the client is.
Ms. Murphy leads the bank's huge capital markets business, which
helps arrange debt and equity financing for big companies. In that
role, she is one of the most senior bankers -- and women -- in Bank
of America's investment banking unit and on Wall Street more
broadly.
She joined Bank of America in 2009 in its leveraged loan
business and left for a stint as a partner and co-head of leveraged
finance in the Americas at Goldman Sachs before returning to the
bank in 2015. Ms. Murphy also holds the title of managing
director.
Bank of America recently ranked first in the debt capital
markets league tables in the U.S. and fifth in equity capital
markets, according to first-quarter bank filings citing
Dealogic.
The memo said the bank would name a replacement "in the near
future."
