Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) reported an electricity outage at a plant within its refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas, and said the power disruptions impacted processing units and caused above-normal emissions.

"A power disruption resulted in the loss of electrical power to West Plant process units," the refinery said in a statement to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. "As a result, protective safety shutdown sequences were automatically initiated, including venting of process gases to facility flares."

It said the emissions of carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and other gases lasted about 24 hours, ending on Saturday.

The 293,000-barrel a day Corpus Christi refinery includes a West and East plant.
