Beginning this month, New Jersey American Water will be investing over $5.8 million in new water mains in its service areas in Morris, Somerset and Union Counties. The approximate 20,800 feet of new pipe replaces water main that was installed as far back as the 1920s. The aging water lines will be replaced with ductile iron pipes.

New Jersey American Water will be working along the following streets:

  • Valley Road, from Mountain Avenue to Passaic Avenue in Long Hill
  • North Finley Avenue, from Orchard Place to Oak Street in Bernards Township
  • East Oak Street, from Finley Avenue to Maple Avenue in Bernards Township
  • Central Avenue, from South Street to Springfield Avenue in New Providence

"With the installation of the new water mains, New Jersey American Water customers should experience increased water flows for residences and fire protection, and continued improvement in reliability," stated Thomas Shroba, senior director of Operations, North Region. "These water main improvements are part of New Jersey American Water's multimillion dollar program to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life."

Shroba added that this work is being coordinated with the townships and counties so that the main replacements are completed ahead of their scheduled pavement resurfacing projects for this year. Construction and street restoration will be completed in the spring and summer of 2017.

New Jersey American Water is committed to the safety of its employees and advises pedestrians and drivers to please take caution in the vicinity of work sites.
