Stratasys Ltd. (Nasdaq:SSYS), the 3D printing and additive
manufacturing solutions company, today further expanded its
presence in healthcare by unveiling several new industry
collaborations and customer demonstrations – further transforming
the use of 3D printing for medical models, driving enhanced
education, training, and learning. Presenting at the Radiological
Society of North America (RSNA), Stratasys Co-founder Scott Crump
is addressing this first meeting of the society’s new 3D printing
Special Interest Group (SIG). Additionally, the company is teaming
up with Minneapolis-based Vital Images, Inc. to speed medical-based
deployments of 3D printing technology.
This first RSNA-sponsored SIG serves as an important resource
for 3D printing and radiology. Recognizing the initiative as an
inflection point for hospital-based 3D printing, Stratasys is
supporting this launch with the participation of industry thought
leader Scott Crump – inventor of revolutionary Fused Deposition
Modeling (FDM) 3D printing. Invited by SIG’s Chairman Frank J.
Rybicki, MD, PhD, Crump will offer his unique perspective on 3D
printing in the hospital environment based on three decades of
expertise that’s helped to shape this industry. Designed to foster
discussion, cooperation and education, the opening session convenes
at RSNA 2016.
“RSNA’s 3D printing SIG is intended to provide a
multidisciplinary forum for collaboration among radiologists,
physicians, engineers, and other applied scientists,” noted
Rybicki. “We’re excited to have Scott Crump participate in the 3D
printing SIG’s first business meeting.”
“Advancements in 3D printing technology for healthcare make it
possible for doctors to transform their approaches to surgical
pre-planning and patient care. Time and again, the technology is
used by physicians to plan, practice and determine appropriate care
plans, while minimizing surgical risks and streamlining costs,”
said Scott Crump, Co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer at
Stratasys. “This new Special Interest Group will create a forum for
the collaboration the market demands at this time.”
Stratasys is also furthering its alliance with Minneapolis-based
Vital Images, Inc., a leader in medical imaging and informatics.
The companies are jointly exhibiting 3D printing and automated
segmentation of medical images at RSNA – supported by Vitrea
Advanced Visualization software which delivers multi-modality
automated segmentation to generate models from DICOM 3D assets.
“Automated segmentation and STL creation have been integrated
into Vital software for years and our demonstration with Stratasys
allows customers to take full advantage of these next-generation
capabilities,” says Jim Litterer, president and CEO of Vital
Images. “We encourage those attending RSNA to stop by the Vital
booth for live demonstrations of how automated segmentation can
speed up the workflow of STL creation.”
RSNA attendees can also join Stratasys medical experts along
with a team of radiologists for a unique 3D Printing Continuing
Medical Education Session. The forum explores ideal approaches for
utilizing patient-specific MR and CT imaging, isolating the anatomy
of interest and preparing files for 3D printing leveraging
Stratasys PolyJet technology – resulting in anatomically accurate
models for training and learning. To register, please sign up on
the RSNA website.
“Stratasys has long been a thought leader and innovator of 3D
printing for applications used in healthcare. Our solutions are
designed to enable doctors, researchers and medical device
manufacturers to work smarter, faster and test more thoroughly.
Patients win by receiving unique, personalized care and treatment.
We’ll continue to push its adoption across all areas of medicine,
creating new opportunities at every point on the healthcare
delivery value chain,” said R. Scott Rader, PhD, General Manager of
Medical Solutions at Stratasys.
At an exclusive “Ask the Experts” evening reception, Stratasys
is additionally working with Vital Images to explore the way
hospitals leverage 3D printing for surgical planning, education,
training and research. In addition to Frank J. Rybicki, MD, PhD,
registrants will learn from Jane M. Matsumoto, MD, Assistant
Professor of Radiology at the Mayo Clinic. This exclusive event is
taking place on Monday, November 28 at 6:30 pm at the Hyatt Regency
McCormick Place. For more information and to RSVP, please visit our
networking events page.
All booth attendees are eligible to participate in a new
promotion for a free DICOM-to-3D printed model contest and
giveaway. RSNA 2016 convenes on November 27 to December 2 at
McCormick Place in Chicago, IL. Visit Stratasys at North Hall B,
