Win Over CNBC While Lou Dobbs Beats CNBC For Third Consecutive
Quarter
FBN Pulls Within 5,000 Viewers of CNBC’s
Business Day For the Month
FOX Business Network (FBN) ended the third quarter with its
highest ratings ever, narrowing the gap with CNBC to its smallest
in history, according to Nielsen Media Research. In addition, the
network’s Lou Dobbs Tonight and Varney & Co marked the third
quarter as the top two business news programs in cable, the first
time FBN achieved the two highest rated timeslots in business news
for an entire quarter.
Hosted by Stuart Varney, Varney & Co (9AM-12PM/ET) averaged
193,00 total viewers for the quarter, beating CNBC’s Squawk on the
Street and Squawk Alley which had 179,000 total viewers by 8
percent. This was the first quarterly win for the three-hour
program, while Lou Dobbs Tonight (7PM/ET) hosted by Lou Dobbs
notched its third straight quarterly win over CNBC with 251,000
compared to 117,000 total viewers. This is the ninth consecutive
monthly win for Dobbs over CNBC.
FBN’s business day (9:30a-5p) programs each marked all-time
highs, including Neil Cavuto’s CAVUTO Coast to Coast which had its
highest rated quarter ever and beat CNBC’s Fast Money Half Time
Report (12-1PM/ET) for the month of September with 180,000 to
172,000 (a 5 percent margin). Maria Bartiromo’s Mornings with Maria
(6-6AM/ET) along with The Intelligence Report with Trish Regan
(2PM/ET) and Countdown to the Closing Bell (3PM/ET) also posted
their highest rated quarters ever. In total, FBN’s Business Day
averaged 149,000 total viewers, while CNBC’s brought in 177,000 for
the quarter.
For the month of September, FBN closed the gap with CNBC,
pulling within 5,000 total viewers in business day, which is the
smallest margin since the network launched in 2007. Additionally,
in September, FBN scored three of the top five programs in business
news for the first-time ever with Lou Dobbs Tonight, Varney &
Co and CAVUTO Coast to Coast ranking numbers one, two and five
respectively.
In addition, FBN’s social media platforms had a stellar quarter
achieving the #1 Business TV News brand on Facebook and Instagram
in total interactions for the quarter & the month versus CNBC
& Bloomberg Business.
