WASHINGTON,
Feb. 9, 2015
/PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NGO alliance InterAction is
pleased to announce that FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) has awarded
additional funding of $400,000 for
InterAction's NGO Aid Map through December
2015. The map, an online, interactive tool that details the
work of U.S.-based, international NGOs at the project level, has
evolved over time with support from FedEx. In 2014, the focus
shifted from mapping U.S. NGOs response to one crisis to a global
mapping of InterAction members' development programming and
emergency response efforts. FedEx began supporting the initiative
in January 2011 and now has given
over $1.4 million toward the
effort.
The evolution of NGO Aid Map, and the unique collaboration
between FedEx and InterAction, has established InterAction as a
leader in aid transparency and open data, and increased NGOs
commitment to improving data collection and data sharing. In this
fifth year of support from FedEx, InterAction will work to capture
an even larger amount of information on NGO activities by
replicating NGO Aid Map with other networks, creating a
standardized way of displaying global NGO data.
"FedEx's continued support of our mapping work has been
crucial in helping our members realize the value in open data and
commit to greater transparency. With this additional funding, NGO
Aid Map will continue to expand the site to include more data,
better data, and new functionality. We are very pleased that the
relationship will continue," said Lindsay
Coates, acting president and CEO of InterAction, the largest
alliance of U.S.-based international NGOs.
"At FedEx, innovation and technology are part of our DNA,
it's what we were founded on. By supporting NGO Aid Map, we're
helping to provide information to NGOs and the broader community.
This results in better collaboration and the ability to provide
emergency response services and programs in the most effective and
efficient way possible. FedEx is proud to support the critical work
of InterAction and NGO Aid Map," said Jack
Muhs, President and CEO of FedEx Trade Networks.
In addition to expanding the NGO Aid Map platform,
InterAction and FedEx will support an award to encourage NGOs to
increase the quality and quantity of their publicly available data.
The $10,000 award will recognize an
organization committed to transparency and open data.
