Among the companies with shares expected to actively trade in
Wednesday's session are Boeing Co. (BA), EMC Corp. (EMC) and Dow
Chemical Co. (DOW).
Boeing said its third-quarter earnings increased, buoyed by
continued strong demand for the aerospace giant's jetliners.
Results easily outpaced market estimates, and the company again
raised its earnings guidance for the year. Shares edged up 0.4% to
$127.64 in premarket trading.
EMC said its revenue rose 8.9% in the latest quarter, driven by
strong gains in its Emerging Storage business and VMware. The
company also confirmed it plans to buy part of Cisco Systems Inc.'s
(CSCO) stake in a joint venture called VCE that sells computing
gear to corporate customers. EMC's shares ticked down 0.2% to
$27.14 premarket.
Dow Chemical, which has been selling off assets and streamlining
its operations, said its profit rose as sales thrived across the
company's segments. Shares rose 3.7% to $50 premarket.
Northrop Grumman Corp. (NOC) reported a 5% decrease in
third-quarter earnings as the defense contractor works to reduce
its pension costs. But earnings beat Wall Street expectations and
the company raised its full-year outlook. Shares were up 0.7% to
$127 premarket.
Xerox Corp. (XRX) said its revenue edged down 2.2% in the latest
quarter as its document-technology business revenue continued to
decline. The company lifted the lower end of its full-year earnings
outlook by 2 cents. Shares gained 1.4% to $13.39 premarket.
Biogen Idec Inc. (BIIB) said sales of its multiple-sclerosis
treatment Tecfidera more than doubled in the latest quarter,
helping drive a 37% surge in overall revenue. Still, shares dropped
5.7% to $308 premarket.
General Dynamics Corp. (GD) said its third-quarter earnings
increased 7% as the defense contractor reported strong growth in
its aerospace and marine systems divisions. Shares rose 1.2% to
$125.35 premarket.
Stanley Black & Decker Inc. (SWK) said its profit rose 43%
in the most recent quarter as the company boosted its margins and
sales and results topped analysts' expectations. Shares were up
1.1% to $87 premarket.
U.S. Bancorp (USB) reported a slight increase in third-quarter
profit as its revenue grew. The results were in line with analysts'
expectations. Shares edged up 0.6% to $40.50 premarket.
Intuitive Surgical Inc. (ISRG) on Tuesday said its third-quarter
revenue rose 10% as procedure volume and shipments of its da Vinci
systems increased, ending a string of year-over-year revenue
declines. Shares gained 1.3% to $502 premarket.
Abbott Laboratories (ABT) said it sales rose 5.8% in the latest
quarter, driven by gains in its nutrition, diagnostics and
established pharmaceuticals businesses. Shares advanced 1.7% to
$43.10 premarket.
3D Systems Corp. (DDD) warned of a third-quarter revenue
shortfall, citing "the continued manufacturing capacity constraints
for its direct-metals printers and delayed availability of its
newest consumer products." Shares sank 14.7% to $37 premarket.
Lumber Liquidators Holdings Inc.'s (LL) said its profit declined
23% in the latest quarter, weighed down by a higher cost of sales
and certain expenses. The company also lowered its full-year
guidance. Shares tumbled 13.7% to $49.71 premarket.
GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK, GSK.LN) reported third-quarter
earnings that beat analysts' expectations Wednesday and announced a
new GBP1 billion cost-savings program and management structure, as
pressures in its U.S. business continue to drag down sales and
compound a tough year for the pharmaceutical giant.
Simon Property Group Inc. (SPG) said its revenue climbed 7.7% in
the latest quarter as its occupancy rates increased. But a loss
related to recent debt-financing efforts pushed down the company's
profit.
Interpublic Group of Cos. (IPG) said its third-quarter earnings
nearly doubled as revenue grew in both the domestic and
international markets.
Norfolk Southern Corp. (NSC) said its third-quarter earnings
rose 16% as the railroad operator became the latest to benefit from
increased freight traffic.
Cree Inc. (CREE) said Tuesday its earnings fell 64% during the
September quarter as weaker-than-expected demand for
light-emitting-diode--or LED--products weighed on sales growth and
costs rose.
Boston Scientific Corp. (BSX) swung to a profit in the third
quarter on higher sales in its cardiovascular and rhythm management
segments and the company raised its outlook for the year.
Tupperware Brands Corp. (TUP) said its third-quarter earnings
fell 35% amid weak performance from its established markets such as
the U.S. and Germany, along with negative currency impacts.
Angie's List Inc. (ANGI) said its third-quarter loss narrowed as
the company booked lower marketing expenses and posted higher
revenue, but the bottom line was still weaker than expected.
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc.'s (TMO) third-quarter profit rose
sharply as the laboratory-equipment maker reported higher revenue
across segments, boosted by its acquisition of Life
Technologies.
Yahoo Inc. (YHOO) on Tuesday reported a slight increase in
revenue, helped in part by growth in its mobile business, easing
for now the pressure facing chief executive Marissa Mayer.
Hudson City Bancorp Inc. (HCBK) said its third-quarter earnings
fell 13% on lower net interest income that came in below Wall
Street expectations.
Amtech Systems Inc. (ASYS) agreed to acquire BTU International
Inc. (BTUI) in an all-stock transaction.
Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) said it would begin testing an
Ebola-virus vaccine in humans in January and could have 250,000
doses available in May, if health authorities deem it safe and
promising enough to distribute more broadly.
Full House Resorts Inc. (FLL) will pursue a sale of the company,
after evaluating strategic alternatives.
Watchlist:
ACE Ltd. (ACE) reported its third-quarter operating income rose
4%, reflecting growth in underwriting income and investment
income.
Broadcom Corp. (BRCM) swung to a profit in the third quarter,
driven by growth in its broadband and connectivity business and
cost-cutting as it moves to close its cellular-chip business.
Discover Financial Services (DFS) said its third-quarter profit
rose 8.6%, driven by card loan growth and a jump in revenue.
E*Trade Financial Corp. (ETFC) said its third-quarter earnings
rose 83% as new customers and assets offset slower trading
activity.
Himax Technologies Inc. (HIMX) said Google Inc. (GOOG) decided
not to increase its stake in the company's Himax Display Inc. unit,
which provides liquid-crystal-on-silicon technology for Google
Glass.
Intuitive Surgical Inc. (ISRG) said its third-quarter revenue

the third quarter on higher admission prices and a slight
improvement in attendance.
Unisys Corp. (UIS) reported third-quarter earnings and revenue
above Wall Street expectations, citing growth in its services and
technology businesses and a higher gross margin.
A Food and Drug Administration advisory committee has
recommended approval of Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc.'s (VRTX) cystic
fibrosis drug to patients age 6 and older with the R117H
mutation.
VMware Inc. (VMW) said its third-quarter earnings fell 26% as
the computer-server software pioneer was hurt by higher expenses,
including charges related to its recent acquisition of
AirWatch.
