Offering builds on unparalleled IHS repository of upstream and downstream expertise

IHS (NYSE: IHS), the leading global source of critical information and insight, today announced it has launched the IHS Chemical Market Daily Service, a new resource for global daily chemical spot pricing, market intelligence and critical metrics that leverage the depth and breadth of price discovery and reliable industry expertise for which IHS Chemical has long been known. Live market and pricing data, as well as relevant supporting information and analysis, will be presented in the form of four daily reports.

Initially, the daily reports will cover North American olefins and polyolefins, North American aromatics, European aromatics and Asian aromatics. In addition to daily pricing metrics, market commentaries and market-moving news, the reports will address issues such as global arbitrage, ethylene cash-costs, export profitability and propylene inventories, among others.

“Our customers have long relied on our market advisory services, our industry experts, and our monthly and annual world chemical analyses and forecasts, but they have asked us to build on that wealth of analysis and provide a daily offering that was price-focused, and we are pleased to deliver on that request with the Market Daily Service,” said Dave Witte, senior vice president of IHS and general manager of IHS Chemical. “The key for us was to exceed anything that currently exists in the market, since basic pricing data is available from other sources, so we’ve added other unique metrics, but the real differentiator is that our pricing analysis is built by experts with decades of specific industry expertise as a foundation. This experience is essential to understanding the prices in a proper context, and to providing the most accurate, current and insightful market service available.”

Beyond that, Witte said, the offering is more useful to customers because it is intertwined with the vast resources of upstream and downstream knowledge that IHS provides, which extend to industries beyond the chemical value chain.

“The IHS Chemical Market Daily Service leverages the price and market forecasting that IHS is famous for, so we can provide our customers with pricing insight today and valuable perspective on what it means tomorrow and beyond,” said Samantha Hartke, director of the IHS Chemical Market Daily Service. “Our goal is to elevate the market expectation for pricing insight by providing a one-stop shop for our customers, so they get the daily market intelligence and pricing they seek, but also the reassurance that our insight is backed by experts for longer-term forecasting and analyses. In addition, IHS Chemical offers special report coverage, which is something the competitors just don’t offer. No one else can provide that depth and breadth of industry experience like IHS.”

Hartke leads a global team of analysts who are geographically positioned to ensure timely access, analysis and reporting on changing market or pricing conditions. In addition to enlisting the expertise and insight of IHS subject matter experts, the service will also leverage news feeds provided by IHS ChemicalWeek, the leading news source for chemical news and information for the past 100 years.

Hartke said the IHS Chemical Market Daily Service is also intended to meet the needs of individuals who do not subscribe to, nor have a need for, the IHS market advisory services. “Some customers, such as traders, brokers or others involved in buying and selling of chemicals or related products, may only want daily pricing,” she said, “so we are offering a separate package for them to enable them to take advantage of our daily pricing insight.”
