SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Tech stocks started the week with
broad gains Monday, with bellwethers such as Apple Inc., Netflix
Inc. and Yahoo Inc. leading the sector north.
Apple (AAPL) rose 1% to $98.94, while Netflix (NFLX) was up by
2% at $467.78 a share and Yahoo (YHOO) climbed 3.5% to $37.75.
Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ) was up by 1% a $35.41. The technology
giant is scheduled to report its latest quarterly results after the
close of trading Wednesday.
Google Inc. (GOOGL) rose 1.4% to $592.12. Over the weekend, the
Internet kingpin acquired Jetpac, which makes an app that uses
photos posted on Instagram to create recommendations for travelers
and activities. Jetpac said it would remove its apps from Apple's
App Store and end support on Sept. 15.
Gains also came from Microsoft Corp. (MSFT), IBM Corp. (IBM),
Facebook Inc. (FB) and Zynga Inc. (ZNGA).
