Tennant Company (NYSE: TNC), a world leader in designing, manufacturing and marketing solutions that help create a cleaner, safer, healthier world, has been honored with a 2013 GOOD DESIGN™ Award given for the Industrial Design excellence of its T12 compact rider scrubber. GOOD DESIGN remains the oldest and most recognized program for design excellence worldwide and is organized annually by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies. The T12 was introduced in 2013 and also received the ISSA Visitors’ Choice Innovation Award in November of the same year.

According to John Ickes, Sr. Principal Industrial Designer for Tennant Company, the T12 design was the result of an effort to think outside of traditional cleaning machine design. “The T12 design emerged from a challenge put forth by our CEO, Chris Killingstad, to start with a clean sheet of paper and think beyond any boundaries. Taking on the challenge and leaving nothing on the table is how good design is born and how Tennant continues to create innovative products that attempt to exceed expectations of our customers.”

“We are incredibly proud of our GOOD DESIGN award and appreciate being honored alongside well known design powerhouses like BMW and Apple®. We strive to build products that match world-class aesthetics with the performance and user experience our customers demand of a Tennant product. Additionally, we view each new project as a challenge to go beyond what has been done before and continue to seek new ways to surprise and delight our customer. More than just aesthetics, good design begins with empathy for our customers and the challenges they face in their daily cleaning efforts. At the end of the day, our products only have one chance to make a good first impression, and we feel that leveraging good design is a key differentiator in the marketplace,” Ickes added.

About the T12 Rider Scrubber

The T12 meets a wide variety of market and application needs through:

  • Performance and productivity - delivers a high performance level of cleaning; is highly maneuverable, powerful and can reach tight spaces with its smaller, compact footprint and tight turning radius, resulting in reduced cleaning time.
  • Environmental health & safety - risk of slip-and-fall accidents is also reduced with the Tennant squeegee and powerful vacuum system that deliver a virtually dry floor. The T12 operates quietly with a low dBA level to allow for cleaning any time, especially in noise-sensitive areas.
  • Sustainability - when equipped with ec-H2O™ technology, the T12 can scrub up to three times longer with a single tank of water and use up to 70% less water than conventional floor scrubbing methods.

For 2013, the Museum received submissions from several thousand of the world’s leading manufacturers and industrial and graphic design firms from around the world representing the most important and critical mass of influential corporations worldwide in the design industry from over 48 countries.
