"Turtle: The Incredible Journey," an acclaimed nature documentary
from National Geographic Explorer and Meerkat Madness producer --
director Nick Stringer, will open at U.S. Theatres beginning June
24, 2011 from Hannover House, the entertainment division of Target
Development Group, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: TDGI). The agreement for all
rights in North America was negotiated by Eric Parkinson, CEO of
Hannover House and Solveig Langeland and Beatrix Wesle of Sola
Media and announced today at the Berlinale Film Festival.
With the completion of the North American license, "Turtle: The
Incredible Journey" has been sold to all major territories
worldwide, and has already achieved considerable commercial
success. The Hannover House theatrical release plan is designed to
mirror the launch of the thematically comparable nature
documentary, "March of The Penguins," which went on to generate
over $77.4-milion in U.S. theatrical gross box office receipts,
with home video revenues estimated in the $30-million range.
About the Film:
TURTLE: THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY is the story of a little
loggerhead turtle, as she follows in the path of her ancestors on
one of the most extraordinary journeys in the natural world.
Born on a beach in Florida, she rides the Gulf Stream up towards
the Arctic and ultimately swims around the entire North Atlantic
across to Africa and back to the beach where she was born. But the
odds are stacked against her; just one in ten thousand turtles
survive the journey.
She faces many hazards, her siblings are lost in the doldrums of
the Sargasso Sea, she comes face to face with creatures of the deep
and nearly dies at the hands of fishermen. She travels up north but
she drifts from her life current, the Gulf Stream, into dangerously
cold waters. When she finally reaches the Azores on the other side
of the Atlantic, she sees the greatest celebration of life on the
Earth as sperm whale and baitballs explode from the water. But deep
and powerful changes are happening in the oceans -- the fish are
disappearing, sea levels are rising, the turtle's birthing beach
could be washed away and bring a way of life to an end.
Then her calling comes, she must return to her beach. When she
finally reaches the shores of Florida, 25 years will have passed!
Under a million stars, she crawls out of the sea to lay her own
eggs and keeps the Turtles Journey alive.
TURTLE: THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY has all the elements of a great
epic: suspense, adventure, despair and hope, told through stunning
photography and engaging narration by Miranda Richardson.
Hannover House has set a release date of Friday, June 24th for
the film's launch to theaters in America. Initial markets will be
New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, offering the film to theaters on
both 35mm format as well as DCP HD format, including a 3-D version
of the film. Ultimately, Hannover House plans to expand to theaters
nationwide, with a release to the home video and video-on-demand
markets planned for October.
"We're very excited about the acquisition and release of this
film," said Eric Parkinson, C.E.O. of Hannover House and Target
Development Group, Inc. "It's extremely commercial, very audience
friendly and very suitable for theatres, television and the home
video market. Even better, it's available in a 3-D format, which
has been especially popular with families. Audiences and reviewers
worldwide have consistently compared the film to 'March of the
Penguins' in terms of wholesome, entertainment value and universal
appeal. 'Turtle' has already proven its value in these top
international markets, so it seems likely to become one of
Hannover's top grossing titles for the year."
Other theatrical releases on slate for Hannover House during the
first half of 2011 include "The Wild Hunt" and "Thru The Moebius
Strip." The company has a total of eight theatrical releases
planned for 2011, as well as 36 titles for release via DVD, Blu-Ray
and Video-On-Demand. In addition to these new releases, Hannover
House handles sales and distribution of a growing film library with
more than 185 titles, including director Joel Schumacher's
"TWELVE," Abel Ferrara's "CHELSEA ON THE ROCKS," Marshall Curry's
"RACING DREAMS" and Barry Tubb's "GRAND CHAMPION."
