R.J. Reynolds Foundation Makes $250,000 Donation to Red Cross Disaster Relief WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The R.J. Reynolds Foundation today approved a donation of $250,000 to the American Red Cross International Disaster Relief Fund to aid tsunami victims. "Because of the magnitude of this disaster and its effect globally, the foundation board believes it is important to make this donation," says Steve Strawsburg, president of the R.J. Reynolds Foundation. "Traditionally, R.J. Reynolds Foundation grants support economic, cultural and educational development in the communities where our employees live and work. In this instance we thought it necessary to step outside of our usual practice, given the tremendous need following the tragic events of Dec. 26." The Red Cross will use money from the fund to provide aid to the countries affected by last month's devastating tsunami. "The money will help provide basic human needs, including medicine, clothing and food," says Marcia Cole, executive director of the Northwest North Carolina chapter of the American Red Cross. "Over the coming months this money will help victims get back on their feet and begin putting their lives back together." In addition, employees of Reynolds American Inc. and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company will be conducting a fund-raising campaign Jan. 11-13 to collect monetary donations for the relief effort. DATASOURCE: R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Holdings, Inc.
