On Saturday evening June 15th, 2024, a fire broke in the Historic Hotel Marysville. Urban Smart Growth, the company that owns the building, praises the City of Marysville for its immediate action and collaboration with the company and its professionals.

Within 48 hours of the start of the fire, ownership engaged with an engineer to assess the stability and safety of the building, hired a security firm to keep the public at a safe distance, and engaged with a remediation company to fence off and prepare to clean the site.

Due to the further study recommended by ownership’s engineer and in light of the speed at which the municipality can remediate the burden on the community, the company that owns the Hotel Marysville has offered to donate the entire property to the City of Marysville so that they can quickly remediate the hazard and inconvenience and at the same time take control of an important piece of real estate in the City to make use for the public benefit or as the City otherwise deems best.

“We were devastated to hear about the fire loss and happy to find out no one was injured,” stated Dan Katz, the ownership’s counsel. “We have laid out a path forward with the City that we think will be the quickest and most efficient way to get the highway open, protect neighboring properties, and move to the next phase of developing this historic corner of Marysville. We believe the City of Marysville is in the best position to take over the property and get the highway and neighboring businesses back open."

The company that owns Hotel Marysville would like to thank the City of Marysville staff for the dedication and attention they have given to begin recovering from this tragedy. Ownership would like to specifically thank Marysville City Manager Jim Schaad, Marysville and Linda Fire Chief Kyle Heggstrom, Marysville Police Chief Christian Sachs, and all of the firefighters and first responders who responded to the fire.
