Treliant Risk Advisors, a leading compliance, risk management, and strategic advisory firm specializing in the financial services industry, announced today that Terry Goddard, former Attorney General of Arizona, has joined Treliant as Senior Advisor. An accomplished executive, attorney, and elected official, Terry brings to Treliant extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of consumer protection, anti-money laundering, privacy and information security, mortgage-related fraud, investor protection, and civil and criminal litigation.

Terry served as Mayor of Phoenix for four consecutive terms, from 1984 to 1990, and he was the Arizona Director for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) from 1995 to 2002. Terry was elected Attorney General for the State of Arizona in 2002 and served in this role until 2011. During his time as an attorney general, Terry played a leading role on the National Association of Attorneys General multi-state task force focused on the mortgage industry and related matters. Terry was also a Board Member for the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco from 1995 to 1999.

“With his vast enforcement experience around mortgage and other consumer lending and privacy issues, Terry will significantly deepen Treliant’s ability to provide clients with the tools to address the significant concerns of the enforcement and regulatory community,” said Andrew L. Sandler, Chief Executive Officer of Treliant Risk Advisors. “We are delighted to welcome Terry to our team.”

“This is a new era of enforcement,” said Terry Goddard. “The financial services industry will be challenged by the coordinated efforts of state and federal enforcement actions focused on a range of issues, and it is important now, more than ever before, for financial services industry companies to ensure they operate in a fair and responsible manner when providing products and services to consumers. I look forward to working with the Treliant team in their efforts to assist their clients in meeting these new challenges.”

Terry was the 2010 recipient of the Kelley-Wyman Award from the National Association of Attorneys General, and he is a 2012 Wasserstein Fellow at Harvard Law School.

Terry received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University in 1969 and his law degree from Arizona State University in 1976. He served an active tour of duty in the United States Navy, and he retired as a Commander after 27 years in the Naval Reserves.
