JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind., Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American
Commercial Lines Inc. ("Company" or "ACL") (Pink Sheets: ACOM)
reported today on the impact to its operations from Hurricane
Katrina. The Company reported that it sustained minimal damage to
its terminaling, towboat and barge assets. Efforts continue to
locate and provide for its employees. Commenting on this
development, Mark R. Holden, President and CEO, stated, "Our first
priority is the health and safety of our most important asset, our
employees and their families. We continue to provide resources and
supplies to our people affected by the hurricane. In addition, we
are closely working with our customers to meet their requirements
and assist in any manner possible. We are fortunate in that we are
fully operational and we are trying to assist those who are less
fortunate." ACL operations continue throughout the United States,
including the fleeting and movement of commodities in the open
navigable waterways, new marine construction, and land-based
administrative functions. The Company has full operational
capabilities in the Gulf Region. ACL's Harahan, Louisiana, office
is temporarily closed and employees who work there are advised to
follow evacuation recommendations made by government agencies where
they reside. ACL is asking that all employees who reside in
Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the panhandle of Florida call

current status and discuss assistance that is available from the
