Emergency services were fighting a fire Friday at the Shell chemical complex at Deer Park, Texas, the Galena Park Fire Department has reported.

Pemex Deer Park posted on the CAER Line (Community Awareness Emergency Response Line) that there "is no fire at Pemex Deer Park units. However, our [PEMEX]emergency respond team is providing aid to another company that is located onsite."

According to a separate message from Shell posted on the CAER Line, "We are currently experiencing a fire within one of our units. The incident is being handled within the boundaries of this facility and there is no threat to the community form this incident."

A Pemex spokesperson told OPIS that Pemex and Shell are working to control the fire, confirming that the refining segment at Deer Park owned by the Mexico state-owned company is unharmed.

A Shell spokesperson could not be immediately reached for comment.

There was a fire at the same plant in February, according to the local TV station ABC 13.

Response in the Gulf Coast refined spot market had not materialized by early Friday evening, with spot prices across the board finishing with strong gains on the heels of futures strength before the fire was reported.
