ZURICH--Zurich Insurance Group AG (ZURN.VX) reported Thursday a
6% increase in second-quarter profit as its general insurance
business benefited from a lack of weather-related losses.
For the three months to June, Zurich Insurance's net profit rose
to $837 million from $789 million a year earlier. For the first
half, net profit rose 13.9% to $2.11 billion.
The Zurich-based insurance giant said operating profit at its
general insurance business, the company's largest, rose 20.7% to
$1.652 billion in the first half.
Gross written premiums and policy fees at the general insurance
business rose 11.4% in the half to $19.995 billion.
Zurich's global life business saw a 4% drop in operating profit
to $634 million during the period amid one-time costs in North
America.
