ZURICH--SMI rises 1.22% to 8318.60. 18 shares in the index close with gains, compared to just two in the red. Credit Suisse (CSGN.VX) is among the small group of losers, falling 0.87% one day after the bank posted fourth-quarter results weighed down by hefty legal provisions. Rival UBS (UBSN.VX) rises 0.22%, days after posting a swing to fourth-quarter profit. Shares of Julius Baer (BAER.VX) fall 2.36%, after the bank reported Monday that an ongoing acquisition may pull in fewer assets than hoped for. Nestle (NESN.VX), Swiss Re (SREN.VX) and Zurich Insurance (ZURN.VX) are among those closing with greater than 1% gains.
