Thyssenkrupp AG (TKA.XE) said Friday that Chief Financial Officer Guido Kerkhoff will serve as the company's new chief executive until the supervisory board finds a permanent candidate to replace former CEO Heinrich Hiesinger.

"Thyssenkrupp needs stability and continuity above all in order to successfully continue on the path of transformation it has embarked on. Guido Kerkhoff has the full confidence of the Supervisory Board for this," Supervisory Board Chairman Ulrich Lehner said.

Mr. Kerkhoff has been CFO at Thyssenkrupp since 2011 and was previously a board member at Deutsche Telekom AG (DTE.XE).

His appointment comes just over a week after Mr. Hiesinger handed in his resignation, following several months of pressure from activist investors who were unhappy with the execution of his plans to turn the conglomerate around.
