Deutsche Post AG (DPW.XE) said Tuesday it will buy part of Adam
Opel AG's facilities in the German town of Bochum, creating 600 new
jobs and expanding its distribution facilities.
Opel's U.S. parent company, General Motors Co. (GM), said last
year that it will terminate production at Opel's Bochum plant,
winding down capacity at the automotive facilities where Opel has
built cars since 1962.
Opel said the deal will help the region retain jobs. Deutsche
Post plans to invest tens of millions of euros in revamping the
20-acre site, which will be able to handle 50,000 shipments per
hour.
The logistics and postal company said workers at the Adam Opel
plant, as well as other interested candidates in Germany's Ruhr
region, will be encouraged to apply for positions at the new
distribution center
