FRANKFURT--The union representing employees of Deutsche Post AG
(DPW.XE) said Friday that strikes will continue tonight until
Saturday morning and more labor action can be expected in the first
half of next week, ahead of wage talks next Thursday.
A varying number of postal workers have been on strike on and
off since Wednesday at different locations across Germany, causing
delayed deliveries of letters and parcels.
Ver.di union is demanding a 6% wage hike for staff, and for the
new collective agreement to run for 12 months.
Deutsche Post spokesman Dirk Klasen said the demands are very
ambitious.
"We have to bring our views more into line with each other
before a solution can be found," he said.
A Ver.di spokesman said there will be no strikes during the
daytime on Saturday and Sunday, and they haven't yet decided when
exactly the strikes will be held next week. However, there will be
no labor action on Thursday, he added.
