Telefonica SA (TEF.MC) is considering selling of some of its data centers, it said Friday.

The telecoms company said in a press release that it is "studying the potential sale of some of its data centers, which may result in one or several transactions, related to either all or some of those assets."

Telefonica's confirmation comes after Spanish newspaper El Pais reported Friday that three North American companies have reached the final bidding round for Telefonica's data centers, valued at around $600 million.

Reports that the Spanish company was looking to divest from its data centers in order to reduce its debt pile had already surfaced in the Spanish press in November last year.
