Health officials investigating a salmonella outbreak have issued
warnings about peaches supplied by California-based Wawona Packing
Co. and sold at Aldi and Target Corp.
Aldi, which is recalling Wawona peaches in several states, said
the peaches were also available through its partnership with
Instacart. The Minnesota Department of Health said Target is
removing Wawona peaches from stores.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday
that 68 salmonella cases in nine states have been reported, with 14
hospitalizations. The CDC said evidence "indicates that bagged
peaches are a likely source of this outbreak." Many people with
illnesses reported buying bagged peaches at Aldi, and the
investigation seeks to "identify other retailers that might have
sold contaminated peaches," the CDC said.
