ROCHESTER, N.Y., March 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Harris Corporation
(NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information
technology company, has named Mark
Thompson, a senior scientist with the RF Communications
Division, as recipient of the Harris Fellow Award for 2011.
The Harris Fellow Award is the company's highest recognition
for engineering achievement. Thompson will be honored at the
Fellows Banquet on Monday, March 21,
in Melbourne, Fla.
Thompson is being recognized for his expertise and ongoing
contributions to sustaining Harris' position as the leading
provider of military tactical communications around the world.
He has played an instrumental role in the development of the
company's renowned Falcon family of radios, which are widely
fielded by all branches of the U.S. Department of Defense as well
as ministries of defense in more than 100 countries.
In his 28 years with Harris Corporation, Thompson has worked on
a wide range of radio communications products and systems. He
has contributed to the development of innovative solutions for
receivers and synthesizers. His interests are in the design
of radio system architectures and in the application of statistical
methods to design.

Thompson received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
He also holds master's degrees in electrical engineering and
systems engineering from Rochester Institute
of Technology and Florida Institute of
Technology, respectively. In addition, Thompson is
currently working on a master's degree in applied statistics, also
at Rochester Institute of Technology.
He and his wife, Dianne, have two children: son, Chris, 25, and
daughter Colleen, 23.
