ROCHESTER, N.Y. and WINNERSH, United Kingdom, March 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has named Andy Start as president of its RF Communications international business.  Harris RF Communications international business provides secure tactical communications, surveillance and command-and-control systems to more than 100 countries.

Start has an extensive background in leading global businesses in the aerospace, military communications, and telecommunications industries.  He most recently served as managing director and vice president of BAE Systems Platform Solutions, a $1.4 billion defense and aerospace electronics business with more than 4,000 employees in the UK, U.S. and Mexico.  In this role, Start was responsible for the design, development and manufacturing of flight controls, visual systems and hybrid power products.

Start began his career as an electrical engineer for the Ptarmigan tactical trunk communications system at Siemens Plessey Systems, where he later became the design authority for the UK's military satellite ground network.  He subsequently joined Astrium, a joint venture between EADS and BAE Systems, and was instrumental in strategy development for its military SATCOM business that later emerged as a highly successful service business, Paradigm Secure Communications.

He holds a bachelor's degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Portsmouth, and a post-graduate degree in management from Bournemouth University.
