MELBOURNE, Fla., June 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) Chairman, President and CEO Howard L. Lance won a Stevie Award in the Best Chairman category during the 2006 American Business Awards last night. Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word "crowned," the awards were presented during ceremonies at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. The ceremonies were hosted by CNN business news anchor Ali Velshi, videocast live on the Internet, and broadcast nationwide on radio. Stevie Awards were presented in over 40 categories, including Best Overall Company, Best Chairman, Best Executive, and Best Corporate Social Responsibility Program. More than 1,500 entries from companies of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted for consideration. Members of the Awards' Board of Distinguished Judges and Advisors and their staffs selected Stevie Award winners from among the Finalists. Finalists were chosen by business professionals nationwide during preliminary judging earlier this year. Since joining Harris in January 2003, Mr. Lance has led Harris to unprecedented increases in revenue and profitability while expanding the company's presence and leadership into adjacent markets through organic growth and acquisitions. Under his leadership, Harris also has expanded its community and educational outreach programs. Mr. Lance was the 2005 chairman of the Brevard County, Florida, United Way campaign, which set new fund- raising records, and Harris recently completed two community challenge grants for a day-care center and pre-school facility that will serve local disadvantaged youth. During the past 18 months, Harris donated more than $4 million to Florida universities to better prepare computer science and engineering students for high-tech jobs.
