Harris Corporation Announces H-Class(TM) Intelligent Transport for Next-Generation Rich Media Networks FOX Sports Touts Tight Integration in Single-box Design LAS VEGAS, April 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Building on its commitment to the advancement of content and service providers' rich media delivery infrastructures, Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) today announced H-Class(TM) Intelligent Transport, a new solution from its H-Class(TM) Content Delivery Platform. H-Class Intelligent Transport enables providers to recognize live and file-based video at the point of content contribution to the network and at the point of content distribution to multiple devices or destinations. Harris NetVX(TM) customer FOX Sports supports the distributed broadcast- type system afforded by Harris' H-Class Intelligent Transport. "The new fiber network connecting the FOX Sports facilities is designed to take advantage of the ever-increasing affordability of IP bandwidth for video transport. Harris' NetVX platform provides us with high-speed, enterprise-wide networking that improves our efficiencies in populating rich-media content across our operations," said Jim Hopkins, senior vice president, FOX Networks Engineering and Operations (NEO), a unit of Fox Television. "Further, I am intrigued by Harris' holistic approach to integrating content management and distribution processes. This strategy dovetails with our intent to outfit our operations with integrated solutions that manage the ingest, propagation and delivery of content and metadata, while introducing automation to eliminate redundant tasks." On the content contribution side, H-Class Intelligent Transport integrates with H-Class Ingest and Digital Asset Management to provide near-immediate recognition of the digital media. On the content distribution side, it integrates with H-Class Playout Automation and Digital Asset Management. At Harris booth #C1907, Harris will display H-Class Intelligent Transport's ability to deliver connectivity that supports consistent, systematic workflow management across diverse networks, geographic locations and facilities. The display will simulate how a large, vertically-integrated media company moves content from production to contribution to distribution to delivery, in turn, underscoring how Intelligent Transport functions as a vendor-transparent network solution. The demonstration will showcase support for multiple devices at the distribution end, including personal device assistants (PDAs) and laptop computers. Intelligent Transport is comprised of two transport products: NetVX for high-speed, IT-based network connectivity and DataPLUS(TM) WAN-based media management for real-time capture, search, retrieval and scheduling of digital assets, integrated with H-Class Ingest, Digital Asset Management and H-Class Playout Automation. In such applications, Intelligent Transport leverages the power of a cohesive platform design to unify disparate processes into a single, modular system that handles voluminous collections of live and file- based content in varying formats for delivery across multiple network types (e.g. fibre, wireline, celluar, satellite and terrestrial). It also drives a range of DTV opportunities, ranging from the basic terrestrial broadcast to a viewer's television set, to the distribution of rich media to handhelds over packet-based cellular infrastructures. "When observing the critical stages of the content lifecycle, Harris recognizes how vital it is to integrate a layer of intelligence with media transport for managing new content the minute it is introduced to the enterprise," said Jim Denny, vice president and general manager of Harris Broadcast Communications Division's Networking and Government Solutions business unit. "In keeping with this philosophy, the H-Class Intelligent Transport solution ensures that content providers and broadcasters can maximize the yield of their existing network investment for new multi-channel services."
