Umniah Selects Harris for 3G Network Backbone and Cellular Backhaul - Jordan's GSM Operator Will Have the Largest Harris TRuepoint(TM) Network in the Middle East and North Africa - RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., March 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), a leading global supplier of wireless equipment and services, has been selected by Umniah Mobile Company in Jordan to supply and install Harris' network backbone and cellular backhaul services. Umniah will use Harris' TRuepoint(TM) next-generation microwave digital radio to provide the flexibility to grow its customer network while supporting its 3G deployment. The Umniah network will be the largest TRuepoint network in the Middle East and North Africa. The operator was awarded its GSM license by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission in August of 2004 and plans to target Jordan's sizable youth sector. Umniah predicts mobile penetration will grow from 20 percent to between 45 and 50 percent within seven years. "We chose Harris because of the technical superiority of its products and the flexibility it provides to accommodate our aggressive launch schedule," said Michael Dagher, CEO of Umniah. "The existing players are well established in 2G, and we are working with Harris to deploy 3G voice and data services to meet increasing market demand and create a significant technological edge for our services."
