General Motors Co. on Wednesday said it has finalized sourcing
agreements that will allow the automaker to power all of its U.S.
facilities with renewable energy 25 years ahead of its initial
goal.
GM said that based on current projections, it has secured enough
renewable energy for all of its U.S. location by 2025, in line with
an accelerated target it announced in September 2021 and 25 years
ahead of the initial target of 2050 the Detroit company set in
2016.
GM said its renewable-energy portfolio now includes sourcing
agreements from 16 plants across 10 states, adding that it has
already realized positive cash flows from the portfolio and expects
to continue to do so.
GM said it expects to avoid the production of an estimated 1
million metric tons of carbon emissions between 2025 and 2030,
equal to the emissions produced by burning 1 billion pounds of
coal.
