CSX Extends Contract With BMC Software to Assure Availability of Its Mainframe Environment Creates Business Value With Improved Efficiency and Increased Availability HOUSTON, March 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BMC Software, Inc. , a leading providerof enterprise management solutions, today announced CSX Corporation has extended its 15 year relationship with BMC Software. After evaluating the competition, CSX chose BMC Software's SmartDBA data management solutions for IMS and DB2 mainframe environments because BMC Software was the only vendor to provide near 24x7 availability, which is crucial to CSX's business operations. Additionally, no other vendor could match the efficiencies provided by BMC Software. CSX technicians estimate choosing alternate vendors would have required them to nearly double their existing database administration (DBA) staff. CSX Technology supplies information technology (IT) services to its sister company, CSX Transportation. As the largest rail network in the eastern United States, IT is critical to the business interests of CSX as it enables the continuous operation of the railroad.
