AVX Expands Wire-to-Board IDC Connector Series for Harsh Environment Applications

Business Wire
AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of advanced passive
components and interconnect solutions, has expanded its 9176 Series
wire-to-board connector family to offer design engineers more
options when connecting discrete wires to a PCB in harsh
environment applications. Providing a gas-tight wire-to-board
termination that meets stringent automotive environment
requirements, the new 1-position connector series is a standalone
surface mount discrete wire IDC connector which includes an
integral insulation strain relief system that allows a wide range
of devices to be securely and reliably connected to a PCB without
soldering. The 1-position connector system reduces total applied
cost when compared to either soldering or crimping, and increases
design flexibility since individual contacts can be located
anywhere on the PCB.
The UL approved 9176 Series connector family supports 18-24AWG
wire termination where shock, vibration, elevated temperature as
well as temperature cycling are critical parameters. The new
single-position connector can be molded in specific colors to match
corresponding wires, thus facilitating proper electrical connection
when multiple color-coded wires are terminated.
Additional, the single-position 9176 Series connectors can be
placed in any location on the PCB to meet the design layout. The
connector can even be over-molded or potted for harsh environment
applications.
This single-position connector features an insulation diameter
ranging from 1.1 to 2.1mm. Dual beam contacts support a 10A current
rating and the larger surface-mount solder base provides a higher
level of stability on the PCB. The optional locking strain relief
cap acts as a termination tool for severe vibration
applications.
The 9176 Series devices feature phosphor bronze contacts with
tin-over-nickel plating, while the insulators are made from UL94-V0
Nylon 46. Operating temperature range is -40ºC to +125ºC.
