Synplicity, Inc. (Nasdaq:SYNP), a leading supplier of software for the design and verification of semiconductors, today announced it has optimized the latest version of its industry-leading FPGA synthesis software to provide enhanced support for Altera's Stratix II and Stratix II GX FPGAs. Synplicity's enhanced Synplify Pro(R) software can provide designers using Stratix II and Stratix II GX devices up to a 20 percent performance boost in timing compared to a prior version of the software released in October 2005. Optimizations within the latest release of the Synplify Pro software also provide customers of Altera's first generation of Stratix devices and the Cyclone family of FPGAs with additional performance improvements. "Quality of results is and always has been our main objective in providing FPGA synthesis software. We are committed to offering our customers the most advanced software solutions in order to achieve these results," said Jeff Garrison, director of FPGA synthesis software at Synplicity. "Altera's Stratix II FPGAs represent an impressive family of high-performance programmable logic devices. The latest version of our Synplify Pro software has been highly tuned for the Stratix II architecture, resulting in improved timing performance for these high-capacity FPGA devices. Synplicity and Altera have worked closely over the years to provide software solutions that ensure our mutual customers can fully utilize Altera's devices and achieve the highest performance possible." "The enhancements to Synplicity's Synplify Pro software complement our Quartus II design software and Stratix II architectures nicely, allowing our customers to fully leverage our best-in-class performance and density advantages of the Stratix II family," said Misha Burich, senior vice president of software and system engineering at Altera. "Our customers designing with the Synplify Pro software should see superior device performance for the industry-leading Stratix II device family." In the latest version of the Synplify Pro software, Synplicity made several enhancements to the tool's timing optimization algorithms to achieve these improved results for Stratix II and Stratix II GX FPGAs. One of these features is more comprehensive and higher-performing mapping to multiply-accumulate (MAC) functions built in to Stratix II FPGAs. A second improvement is in register re-timing where timing delay is automatically balanced between registers to enable overall faster clock speed. Pricing and Availability The Synplify 8.5 and Synplify Pro 8.5 software are available now. Pricing for the Synplify software starts at $9,500 (U.S.) and pricing for the Synplify Pro software starts at $20,000 (U.S.).
