TANDBERG Acquires Patents from Forgent Networks Purchase Boosts Visual-Communication Leader's Patent Portfolio for Video-Management Software NEW YORK, and OSLO, Norway, Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- TANDBERG (OSLO: TAA.OL), a global leader in visual communication, said it purchased patents related to video management and scheduling software from Forgent Networks Inc. (NASDAQ:FORG), of Austin, Texas, for $3,750,000 in cash. The purchase will strengthen TANDBERG's portfolio of patents for the TANDBERG Management Suite (TMS), its industry-leading software for management, administration and scheduling of video communication. "TMS sets the standard for video management and scheduling software," stated Andrew Miller, chief executive officer of TANDBERG. "This acquisition further expands our leadership position in the video management category, and enhances our already strong portfolio of video endpoint, network infrastructure and management software intellectual property." TANDBERG's own centralized TANDBERG Management Suite (TMS) delivers real-time information and powerful diagnostics, making it easy for administrators to manage and maintain their entire video network and schedule video meetings. Among other things, it manages onsite and remote video systems as well as scheduled and ad-hoc calls, supports management of network and video equipment from multiple vendors, manages calls made on multiple protocols, and supports multiple servers for improved performance. Forgent's patents also support the planning and execution of audio, video, or web conferencing, including advanced scheduling and management through its ALLIANCE software. "The acquisition will strengthen TANDBERG's patent portfolio with complementary technology," said Richard Snyder, chairman and CEO of Forgent. "At the same time, this transaction will allow Forgent to strategically focus on its core business." As part of the transaction, Forgent will notify existing ALLIANCE customers of their options for ongoing support and maintenance and for transitioning to TMS. For those customers wishing to remain with the ALLIANCE software suite, Forgent intends to complete its underlying maintenance agreements with its customers.
