Cypress Employees Take on Healthy Activities to Benefit Second Harvest Food Bank

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ:CY), today announced the
kickoff of a new Employee Wellness program that uses philanthropic
giving as a motivator for employees. For every exercise-related
activity an employee logs, Cypress donates money, in the employee’s
name, to Second Harvest Food Bank.
Employees can log their activities online and through mobile
devices to donate money to Second Harvest while getting in better
shape and staying healthy. Eligible activities cover a wide range
of ability levels, including walking, yoga, bike riding, swimming,
and even yard work.
The combination wellness/philanthropic program is more than just
a simple donation to a worthy cause; it motivates employees to
pursue a healthy lifestyle. Cypress has pledged $20,000 to Second
Harvest Food Bank, which will be donated as employee activities are
tallied.
The program, which involves Cypress US, Cypress Asia, and
Cypress Europe, began on October 20. Included in the launch are
various “challenges” for the employees, including a group challenge
between the USA, Asia, and Europe, and a personal challenge from
President and CEO T.J. Rodgers.
“This is a revolutionary way to inspire healthy activities and
enable employees to stay connected to one another and the
community,” said Jay Kilby, Business Architect at Cypress. “Cypress
gets healthy, happy, and motivated employees that can also feel
good about contributing to a worthy cause.”
“Cypress has always been a strong supporter of Second Harvest
Food Bank,” said Kathy Jackson, CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of
Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. “We are grateful for the
continued support and are excited about this new way of keeping
employees and their friends and families involved and aware of the
good they are doing for the community as they keep themselves
healthy. We look forward to seeing all the Cypress-sponsored
employee activities logged on the Plus 3 Network to benefit Second
Harvest.”
Cypress is using Plus 3 Network (www.plus3network.com), a
Silicon Valley startup, to deliver the program to employees and the
funds to Second Harvest. Employees can track their activities using
the Plus 3 website or access the mobile site from a Smartphone.
“You can think of us as a daily ‘health-a-thon, walk-a-thon,
jog-a-thon, you name it – a- thon’,” said Rick Sutton, Plus 3 CEO.
“For every minute of gym time or yard of walking, we move money to
charity.”
Plus 3 builds on peer support by allowing each member of the
Cypress community to see the public activities of others, and by
building leader boards and engaging competitions between groups
within the Cypress community site.
