Cintas Announces 200th Life Save

Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ: CTAS) today announced that its
ReviveR™ Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) program has helped
save 200 sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) victims. Cintas celebrates the
landmark achievement with the recent save of Dave Carlstrom, who
suffered from SCA after finishing a racquetball game at a gym in
Seattle, Wash.
“We are thrilled that Cintas’ AED program has positively
impacted so many lives,” said David Bingham, Director of AEDs and
Training, Cintas. “Each second counts when SCA strikes, and with a
ReviveR™ on-site and nearby, help is just around the corner. These
200 saves are the result of proactive organizations that have made
safety a priority by having the right products, programs and
training in place to prepare for any incident.”
Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is an electrical malfunction in the
heart and can occur to anyone, at anytime, without any warning or
history of heart conditions. The American Heart Association advises
that individuals with access to and treatment from an AED within a
few minutes of experiencing SCA have up to an 80 percent chance of
survival. The odds of survival drop to less than two percent after
the first 10 minutes, which is about the average response time for
an EMS to arrive after an initial call to 911.
“You never think it will happen to you,” said Carlstrom, who
turned 62 the day after the event. “I wouldn’t be here today if it
weren’t for the quick-thinking staff and members at the gym who
were able to apply CPR and activate the AED within three minutes of
the incident.”
Having an AED program in place can benefit an organization if an
on-site emergency occurs. In the event of an incident, Cintas’
ReviveR™ View AED unit uses video guidance and text and voice
prompts to provide easy, step-by-step instructions to responders in
real-time.
“When SCA occurs, a bystander or staff member is usually the one
who must take action,” added Bingham. “With the ReviveR™ AED,
responders can be assured that defibrillation, although a
frightening experience, can be simple.”
Cintas’ comprehensive AED program extends beyond the ReviveR™
View AED unit and is focused on all aspects of emergency response.
In addition to providing CPR and AED training, the program includes
site assessment by a health and safety expert and periodic
maintenance reviews of the unit to ensure it is in proper working
order.
