Complete interoperability testing to further advancement of
on-demand video services in open-standards environments DENVER,
June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- SCTE -- Vertasent, a leading developer of
advanced on-demand management systems, and ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS), a
leading provider of technology in the global communications
marketplace, will showcase an Open Standard Switched Digital Video
solution at the SCTE conference in Denver. This demonstration can
be experienced in the ARRIS booth #1662. The solution couples the
Vertasent Switched Video System and the ARRIS Keystone(TM) D5(TM)
Digital Multimedia Termination System (DMTS(TM)). The end-to-end
solution makes use of a TV Guide client running on a standard
Motorola set-top box. The Vertasent Switched Video Manager
processes channel change messages in real-time delivered via the
set-top. The Keystone D5, which provides 48 QAM channels in 2 RU,
communicates with the Switched Video Manager to dynamically, in
real-time, deliver the requested program(s) onto the appropriate
node. The performance of the Switched Digital Video solution, as
viewed by the subscriber, is comparable to today's broadcast
experience but offers significant spectral bandwidth savings. The
Keystone D5's unique architecture allows it to function equally
well for Multicast Video, VOD, SDV, or M-CMTS. When used with the
Vertasent Edge Resource Manager, which administers the bandwidth
requests from the same subsystems, the D5 can deliver a range of
services within one Universal Edge Device. Vertasent's products
include resource management components for both VOD and Switched
Digital Broadcast. "We are very pleased to have the opportunity to
integrate our resource management system with the ARRIS Keystone
D5," said Bruce Bradley, VP, Product and Market Management at
Vertasent. "As operators deploy the Keystone D5, the Vertasent
integration will offer them the flexibility to not only launch
Switched Digital Video, but to share the D5 with VOD systems as
well." "The emergence of switched digital video as an important
initiative for cable operators highlights the ARRIS D5's
flexibility and state-of-the-art technologies," said Stan Brovont,
ARRIS VP Marketing & Broadband Business Development. "The ARRIS
D5 is now in full production and offers operators a very dense,
cost-efficient, and flexible platform that takes full advantage of
next generation video network applications like the Vertasent
Switched Video System and Edge Resource Manager." About Vertasent
