General Motors Co. on Wednesday said it named Matt Tsien executive vice president and chief technology officer, effective April 1.

The Detroit auto maker said Mr. Tsien, currently executive vice president and president of GM China, succeeds Jon Lauckner, who is retiring on July 1.

GM said Julian Blissett, currently senior vice president of international operations, will succeed Mr. Tsien as executive vice president and president of GM China.

Steve Kiefer, senior vice president and president of GM International, will assume the day-to-day operations of international markets currently handled by Mr. Blissett, GM said.

Mr. Lauckner joined GM in 1979 and has been chief technology officer since April 2012.
