Top leaders at General Motors Co. (GM) and the United Auto
Workers met Wednesday to try to resolve the strike between the
manufacturer and union, according to a new report.
General Motors CEO Mary Barra met for around an hour with UAW
President Gary Jones and Vice President Terry Dittes, who focuses
on GM, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press.
One person familiar with the meeting told the Free Press the
session was aimed at injecting "new life into the
negotiations."
Unionized workers at Detroit-based GM went on strike Sept.
16.
GM and the UAW are focusing on wages at the bargaining table,
according to a report Tuesday in The Wall Street Journal.
The union wants GM to guarantee wage gains over a four-year
contract, while the company want to give employees more money in
the form of lump-sum bonuses, the WSJ story said.
GM shares rose 1.5% to $34.66 in afternoon trading.
