CBS Corp. has promoted two executives from its Showtime Networks Inc. subsidiary to senior leadership positions at CBS as the media company works to remake itself after a recent tumultuous stretch.

CBS announced that Christina Spade has been appointed chief financial officer, a job that had been open at the company.

It also named David Nevins as chief creative officer -- a newly created position -- overseeing programming, marketing and research across its television studios, internet-streaming business, and other units.

Both will start their new roles immediately.

Ms. Spade has worked in a variety of capacities for Showtime for more than 22 years, most recently serving as its chief financial officer. She took that job in February 2013

Mr. Nevins has also been promoted to chairman of CBS subsidiary Showtime Networks Inc., in addition to his current chief executive officer title there. He will continue in that role while taking on his new CBS and Showtime responsibilities.

During his tenure at Showtime, the channel launched a number of well-regarded shows, including "Homeland," "Billions" and "Shameless." He previously was a producer and programming executive, including a stint as president of Imagine Television between 2002 and 2010. Mr. Nevins also worked at Fox Broadcasting Co. and NBC.

In September, Leslie Moonves stepped down as the chief executive and chairman at CBS, denying accusations that he had sexually harassed or assaulted women -- or harmed the careers of those who rebuffed him. Also last month, the media company announced a settlement of outstanding legal disputes with its controlling shareholder, National Amusements Inc
