Regulation FD Disclosure

On August 8, 2018, The Greenbrier Companies, Inc. (Greenbrier) issued the press release attached as Exhibit 99.1 announcing that
Greenbrier-AstraRail, Greenbriers European subsidiary, has entered into an agreement with Rayvag Vagon Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. (Rayvag) to take an approximately 68% ownership stake in Rayvag. Rayvag is a railcar manufacturer and
provider of railcar repair and parts services based in Adana, Turkey.
