Barclays Has Looked at Merger Options in Face of Activist Pressure -FT

--Barclays has explored a number of options in response to
pressure from activist investor Edward Bramson to shrink down its
investment bank, including a merger with a rival lender such as
Standard Chartered, reports the Financial Times, citing unnamed
sources.
--Other plans being considered include larger shareholder
returns, the expansion of Barclays' ring-fenced U.K. business, and
hypothetical combinations with banks such as Deutsche Bank, Credit
Suisse, or Singapore's DBS Bank, according to the FT.
