First Tennessee Commits $1M to Fogelman Downtown YMCA $4M Capital Campaign
May 10 2018 - 7:30AM
Thanks to a new partnership between First Tennessee Bank and the
YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South, the Fogelman Downtown YMCA
will receive a $500,000 donation and a Matching Challenge Gift of
$500,000 from First Tennessee to remodel significant portions of
the building that opened in 1987.
“First Tennessee’s truly transformational donation and
additional challenge gift brings our total raised to $2,460,000, or
60 percent of our $4 million goal. We are confident that our
membership will be inspired by the challenge as we launch the
community portion of the campaign and continue to approach other
businesses, philanthropists and foundations,” said Angelic Graves,
Executive Director of the Fogelman Downtown YMCA. “This campaign
will allow the YMCA to continue its longstanding tradition of
providing health and wellness solutions to our downtown community
with a focus on strengthening spirit, mind, and body. Additionally,
renovations of our downtown location will allow us to increase
recruitment among downtown businesses, including First Tennessee.
We also look forward to engaging First Tennessee volunteers in our
financial literacy program for youths.”
For more than 150 years, First Tennessee has strengthened
communities by collaborating with nonprofit, community development
and civic partners to meet community needs, encourage growth and
support sustainability. The Y is one of the nation’s leading
nonprofits, strengthening communities through youth development,
healthy living and social responsibility, and working to make sure
that everyone, regardless of age, income or background has the
opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
“First Tennessee and the Fogelman Downtown YMCA share a vision
that by increasing financial and physical wellness we can create a
stronger Memphis,” said Bryan Jordan, CEO of First Horizon National
Corp., parent company of First Tennessee. “We are proud to support
the Fogelman Downtown Y and invite other companies and
organizations to join us in promoting a healthier, stronger
community by contributing to this capital campaign.”
Added Jerry Martin, CEO of YMCA of Memphis and Mid-South, “We
are extremely grateful for the First Tennessee commitment to the
Fogelman Y. This YMCA has been a pillar of our downtown Memphis
community since 1909, and the commitment of First Tennessee and
others will ensure this legacy continues for many years to
come.”
