Teladoc Earns Esteemed HITRUST Security Certification
August 11 2017 - 11:12AM
Teladoc, Inc. (NYSE:TDOC), the world’s largest and most trusted
telehealth provider, today announced that it has earned Certified
Status for information security by the Health Information Trust
(HITRUST) Alliance, the nation’s preeminent source for establishing
a common security framework for healthcare. With the HITRUST CSF
Certified Status, Teladoc has received another third-party
validation of its ability to meet healthcare regulations and
requirements for protecting and securing the sensitive protected
healthcare information (PHI) of its clients and members.
“The HITRUST CSF has become the most used information protection
framework for the healthcare industry. As one of the dedicated
healthcare organizations who have achieved this certification – not
just through the self-assessment, but through the rigorous CSF
assessor process – Teladoc can provide its clients with the utmost
confidence in this designation and the ability to maintain the best
measures for data protection,” explained Ken Vander Wal, chief
compliance officer, HITRUST.
The six-month certification process required Teladoc to prepare
372 unique security controls for randomized testing by the Security
Council in areas ranging from malware defenses to access control
and security event monitoring. All areas required not just having
the correct measures in place, but also the ability to demonstrate
how they will be routinely monitored, measured and updated.
“Data security has always been a top priority and area of
excellence for Teladoc, and now having completed the intensive
process to earn the HITRUST CSF Certification, our clients can have
even further assurance of our ability to protect their
information,” said Jeff Nadler, chief information officer, Teladoc.
“This is another milestone in our continuing commitment to maintain
the most rigorous and strongest framework for both privacy and
security measures.”
The HITRUST CSF Certification is the benchmark that healthcare
organizations require to safeguard their PHI and measure the
proficiency for information protection. HITRUST recently unveiled
the ninth version of its security framework that incorporates
information protection standards from multiple industries. This
includes compliance with HIPAA and HiTech standards, addressing
cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities, data protection
standards and physical security.
