Valero Energy Corp. (VLO) said a gasoline-making fluid catalytic
cracking unit experienced a "power train trip" at its McKee
refinery in the Texas panhandle.
The refinery said in a statement to the Texas Commission on
Environmental Quality that the FCCU trip resulted in opacity in
emissions that were above the reportable quantity, adding this
began Saturday and continued into Sunday.
The nearly 200,000-barrel-a-day McKee refinery is located in
Sunray, 65 miles north of Amarillo.
"The refinery is following safe shutdown/startup procedures to
minimize emissions," it said. "The refinery has not received any
complaints from neighbors as a result of the incident."
