Comcast NBCUniversal is sending one very lucky 17-year-old Boys
& Girls Club youth on a once-in-a-lifetime journey to
experience Super Bowl XLIX in Phoenix like no one else. Cesar
Rivera, a senior at Pueblo High School and a 10-year Club member of
the Pascua Yaqui Clubhouse in Tucson, AZ, along with his father and
Clubhouse Director, will head to Phoenix this morning to attend a
series of pre-game Super Bowl activities and the big game airing
this Sunday, February 1st on NBC.
Cesar will attend Super Bowl XLIX and get a behind-the-scenes
look at how NBC Sports Group produces and broadcasts Super Bowl
week, leading up to the biggest Sunday night of them all. As part
of the experience, he will go on an exclusive tour of University of
Phoenix Stadium, which is unlike any other stadium in North America
with its unique design, engineering, and technology with a
retractable roof and field. The stadium is operated by Global
Spectrum, which is a subsidiary of Comcast-Spectacor. Additional
pre-game events will include volunteering alongside NBC Sports
Group talent, Taste of the NFL chefs and former NFL players at a
food bank benefiting Feeding America, the nationwide network of
food banks that leads the fight against hunger in the United
States; meeting the on-air team of NBCSN’s Pro Football Talk; and a
visit to the Sunday Night Football bus. Cesar will also attend the
NFL Honors awards ceremony on NBC.
Cesar was selected for this unique experience because he has a
keen interest in technology, participates in the Club’s technology
curriculum, has demonstrated leadership and continues to excel in
academics. An avid football fan, Cesar is a triplet, and his two
brothers also attend the Club regularly. Cesar attributes his
positive attitude and future aspirations to time spent at the
Club.
“It’s wonderful that Comcast NBCUniversal can take Cesar’s
passion for technology and show him how it’s applied in a
real-world setting to execute an event like the Super Bowl,” said
Jim Clark, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
“Given the many challenges of being a teenager today, Cesar has
chosen to spend his out-of-school time positively at a Boys &
Girls Club, by participating in academic and enrichment programs,
community service projects and even winning a 2015 Youth of the
Year Scholarship.”
This opportunity stems from Comcast NBCUniversal’s longstanding
partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Comcast
NBCUniversal is positively shaping the futures of our youth, and
NBC Sports Champions, the pro-social initiative of NBC Sports
Group, is proud to offer this opportunity to Cesar.
“We are a strong supporter of Boys & Girls Clubs of America
and are excited to offer one of its members this unique opportunity
to witness first-hand the behind-the-scenes work and technology
that goes into the broadcast of the Super Bowl,” said Charisse R.
Lillie, Vice President of Community Investment for Comcast
Corporation and President of the Comcast Foundation. “Our hope is
that this experience will further ignite Cesar’s passion for
technology, and we wish him continued success on his path to a
bright and rewarding future.”
Comcast has supported local Boys & Girls Clubs for nearly 15
years, providing approximately $90 million in cash and in-kind
contributions since 2009 alone. The Comcast Foundation has
supported the Pascua Yaqui Boys & Girls Clubs for several
years.
Through an expanded partnership, Boys & Girls Clubs of
America and Comcast NBCUniversal recently launched a new technology
education program, called My.Future, to teach Club kids about our
digital world and the endless opportunities that technology offers.
My.Future is available to the 4 million youth served by 4,100 Boys
& Girls Clubs annually, including Cesar’s Club.
